Holiday Bed and Breakfast in Loch Achray.

Mature trees and gardens ensure a quiet stay, with red and roe deer frequent visitors to the gardens.

Glenbruach was built in 1875 by the Dunsmuir Glenbruach B&B near Loch Achray and Loch Lomondfamily, a wealthy family who spared no expense in the design and size of their family home. The family had a staff of ten including a full time piper!

Before the central heating boilers were installed in 1923 it was a full time job to keep the 26 open fires burning.

The magnificent main stairwell has large stained glass panels designed for the Dunsmuir family, and a large stone fireplace with Landseer "Monarch of the Glen" tiles. This fire still burns coal in an open grate to this day. Modem efficient oil boilers installed in 2001 keep the house warm in the coldest weather.

All the public rooms are spacious, the guest lounge being 50 square metres. A west-facing conservatory is a fine way to watch the sun set behind Ben Venue in the summer months, perhaps with a book from our large collection.

Sadly the Dunsmuir heirs were killed in the First World War and their father died around the same time. The house was sold to the Blair family, who owned many tourist businesses at that time, including the Trossachs Hotel and the Sir Walter Scott cruise ship on Loch Katrine.

Glenbruach house is still shown on Ordinance Survey maps as BLAIR HOUSE. (national grid ref :NN5 106).

Both the Dunsmuir and Blair families are laid to rest in the nearby Trossachs Churchyard in sight of their former home. Trossachs church is a favourite venue for weddings for people from all over the world.

John Ruskin and Sir John Everett Millais spent some time in Brig o Turk and Millais described a visit to the church in his diaries of 1853.

James and Marina Lindsay, the current owners of Glenbruach, have restored many of the fine features and complemented them sympathetically with comfortable fumiture and interesting interior design. The vast wall spaces are covered in original artwork and fine prints. The restoration work continues so that more rooms can be available for guest?s use.

The guest bedrooms are individual in style. Four-poster bed, sleigh bed, iron bed, take your pick. Huge cast iron baths or modem electric showers, the choice is yours. All bedrooms have facilities for making fresh coffee and all have a sofa to relax on.

There is a separate dining room, which contains a collection of blue and white china and has spectacular views to Ben Venue. All diets are catered for and evening meal is available if required, however there are excellent restaurants in the area.

Acres of colourful rhododendrons and azaleas surround the house and the best time to see them in full bloom is May and June. Visitors are welcome to relax in the formal gardens surrounding the house on warm days and for those who are more energetic a rowing boat is available on Loch Achray. Safe storage is available for mountain bikes and there is a drying room for wet clothes.
